Aussie Scrap Source Mixed Media Techniques

Here's whats up over at the Aussie Scrap source Blog

We’ve had such a positive response to this new mixed media series, we thought we’d turn it into a readers challenge!    Our design team has included some stunning projects below using several different resist techniques – there's heaps of different ways you can use resist techniques in your projects from wax crayons to clear embossing areas of your page, and even tie dying as Leeann shows below.
We've got prize packs to give away - if you want to give it a try we’d love to showcase them in a blog post next week.  Email pics of your resist technique project to aussiedt@iinet.net.au by next Tuesday 14th August for a chance to win one of our fabulous prize packs!

For Leeann mixed media is made up of so many amazing layers using so many techniques at the same time. One technique that Leeann shares with you from this piece is Resist! Which when you think about it, there are so many ways in which you can use this technique. Leeann shares an old favorite tie dying using colored dye sprays on fabric.
As you can see the first part of this artsy piece is all about making up that first layer. From there we continue to build each of the layers up using an assortment of paint, printed tissue paper, decoupage mediums. To help create texture an assortment of sponges, stippling brushes, bubble wrap and masks are used also in a layering type fashion. The finishing details are using black and white pens to highlight images and words along with using rub-ons very randomly.

Leeann want to show you how she created her first layer. Using this tie dying technique. Immediately  you can see how the resist works. Simply by scrunching and tiring the fabric  with hair ties it has restricted  areas of the fabric from the dye thus acting as a resist.

Using SEI orange tumble dye on a damp piece of calico.

Leeann added a small amount of SEI green tumble dye by simply twisting areas of the fabric and then sprayed.

The end result and the base for Leeann's artsy piece of she art!

Ok... so i hope i have inspired you and now you want to play... make sure you check the blog out as there are a few different ways you can use this resist technique!

and remember each week there's a different technique so you better keep up on the play!

thanks miss wally xxx

lots of scrappiness...

So I have a few scrappy projects that I created  a little while ago and  keep forgetting to share...

This first one was inspired by the PRIMA BAP June sketch challenge.

Materials: BG Core impressions cardstock - man i love that colour of core! - sassafras mix and mend pattern paper and glitter alphas, prima vines, roses wooden buttons, pearls and sentiment tags from their packaging, hambly rub-on, seashells tiny bottle, sand, sellotape roll.
The photo is mounted onto upcycle sellotape roll and wrapped with twine.

 "Photo wallet"

I made this photo wallet using a heap prima, but I used mainly the packaging from the prima products. So happy that I made this too as I now have it filled with favorite photos of my baby gals and man!

Materials: Prima north country packaging and rose, animal bash pattern paper, wood buttons doodle deux plus the sentiment tags on the packaging. so cute hide and seek (cut out clouds) buttercup plastic packaging, twine and plastic business sleeves elle's studio journal cards and some old wooden beads.

I backed the cover with an older pattern paper from prima - to cute! made so of those famous buttons i made from my punches.
